As a 11/12-year-old child who was serious about dance, and OBSESSED with dance in music videos…this PBS documentary was solace in my world. Featuring a comprehensive  history and exploration on the power of dance in music and television, the history of the music video, and the mavericks of dance and entertainment , who were a part of creating these now iconic moments in video for the top artists of all time. From Hollywood Musicals, to Motown, to Soul Train, to James Brown, right down to Rosie Perez and the In Living Color Fly Girls…and everything in between. This documentary  introduced to me  street dance pioneers, and icons such as, Crazy Legs, Mr. Wiggles, LA City Rockers Anthony Thomas, and Willi Ninja just to name a few.  (In fact, my first lesson in vogue came from trying to mimic (unsuccessfully) one of Willi’s famous clicks , the clock, which he does behind his back effortlessly…but come to try, realized he was on a whole other level)  alongside Legends such as Michael Kidd (Guys and Dolls, Bandwagon, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers) , and Cholly Atkins (Atkins and Cole, Motown)

Here is a part of this documentary featuring  the hottest choreographers and dancers of their day, the golden age I think..Willi Ninja,  Vincent Patterson (Michael Jackson, Madonna) , Paula Abdul, Anthony Thomas ( LA Rockers, Janet Jackson) and many more…
